KADOKAWA lights up the anime scene once again with the release of the second teaser trailer for the awaited “Date A Live V”. Not only does this fresh teaser offer glimpses into the new season’s footage, but it also confirms a premiere date for 2024 and introduces fans to a captivating new character visual.
This new visual introduces us to Mio Takamiya, voiced by Aya Endou. Portrayed as an enigmatic figure radiating both beauty and power, Mio shares some undisclosed connection with our familiar protagonist, Shido Itsuka.
The upcoming season will see Shido confronting the mammoth DEM Industry, a corporation with a hunger for the potent abilities of Spirits. The familiar faces of Jun Nakagawa, Fumihiko Shimo, Naoto Nakamura, and Gou Sakabe are back, donning the roles of director, series composer, character designer, and music composer, respectively, under the GEEKTOYS banner.
Tracing its roots to the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko light novel series, “Date A Live”, crafted by Koushi Tachibana and illustrated by Tsunako, has been a fan favorite since 2011. Boasting 33 volumes and 11 short story collections till May 2022, this franchise has spread its wings to spawn not only anime adaptations but also manga, video games, and the “Date A Bullet” spin-off.
To give newcomers a taste, Yen Press summarizes the series’ first volume:
On the seemingly typical April 10th, Shido Itsuka’s day starts with the chirp of an alarm, only to discover the culprit to be his own sister. Just another day in a world shaken by spatial quakes. But, fate has other plans. Shido’s life is about to be upturned when he meets a girl, the very core of these quakes. Labelled a Spirit, Shido’s choices are stark – either eliminate her or, perhaps, take her out on a date and make her fall in love.
The “Date A Live” anime series has had its run across four seasons, premiering in 2013, 2014, 2019, and 2022. Apart from these, there’s the 2015 “Date A Live” anime film and the two-part OVA centered around the “Date A Bullet” spin-off, all culminating as part of the series’ 10th-anniversary celebrations.
